Ethics woven in

At Village Women Dream, we believe beautiful things are made with patience, care, and respect - for people, for craft, for the planet. Our materials and making process reflects this belief.

The art of silk

Working with silk matters to us because it matters to Cambodia’s heritage. Silk weaving in Cambodia dates back to the 7th century, reaching artistry under the Khmer Empire and adorning royalty and religious figures, and travelling along the silk road.

This rich tradition was threatened throughout the civil war years, but survives today, passed down through generations. We are proud to support it.

A network of makers

To support Cambodia’s textile heritage, we work closely with two Cambodian NGOs - ColorSilk Foundation and Goel Community. both organisations empower rural weavers and help preserve traditional craftsmanship.

Their silk, linen, and cotton are handwoven, organic, and dyed with natural plant dyes or certified eco-dyes.

Our work with them means that each VWD piece supports a wider network of Cambodian weavers, and strengthens the impact of local NGOs doing incredible work.

Upcycled where possible, organic where new

Our latest collection was created using upcycled, end-of-roll fabrics from our studio. We’ll continue using these fabrics until every last piece is gone.

Our studio uses solar panels and collected rainwater. Our artisans sew on foot-pedalled, donated machines, and you'll notice we limit metal and plastic fastenings in our designs to prioritise simplicity, and upcycling. Any elastic and metalware we do use is upcycled, as is the thread on our machines.

Beyond materials, we are working toward absolute carbon neutrality, a traceable closed-loop strategy, and B-Corp certification, by the end of 2027.

Always ethical, always for Cambodia.

Cambodia’s textile and garment industries are rich in heritage and vital to its economy. Through our choices and processes, we invite you to be part of these industries as an ethical consumer - knowing who made your products, how they were made, and why they make a difference.
